Symptoms, sudden onset joint pain, ALL joints, pain does not get better with rest or laying down. 8 to 9 out of 10 pain.
Internist/attending/other attendings observe no redness or swelling, sed. rate is normal. Attending accuses patient of seeking narchotic pain killers.
Week or so later, a psychiatrist is told baout the pain, and casualy, off the top of his head says, iron cna build up in the joints and cause pain. And guess hat, the previouly mentioned dr's had put the patient on iron TID soon before the symptoms started. Had the dr's simply looked at the chart and looked and recent changed in treatment, the patient wouldn't have had to go through being accused of being drug and attention seeking and owuld not have had to suffer through the pain for so long.
