Hello, my brother is a 20 year old man who has been having seizures since 11-11-10. At first he was only having one a day, but when he was transferred to the new hospital and began the pentabarb for the coma so that the seizures would not damage his brain, he seemed to seize more. He then went into kidney failure, with temperatures of 106 for a few days, septic shock (blood pH 7.23) was what it was. After being on dialysis his pH was normal again. He has been on numerous epilepsy drugs and tested for everything and anything, but no tests came back positive, even spinal taps (3). Dr's were starting to take him off the pentabarb after he had an MRI that came back with no brain damage seen. He started to come out of the coma, was able to blink once for yes and twice for no, but not always consistant with the pentabarb still at .125. I know it takes a while to get out of your system as the half-life is 12-24 hrs. It was positive though, except for the fact that he was crying a lot. I would like to find out more what is going on with him, and hope that this team of doctors would be able to find out the cause and treatment. Right now I heard someone talking about his quality of life, but I still feel like he is in there, fighting to get better. Please call me if you have a second opinion to give.Reply Follow This Thread Stop Following This Thread Flag this Discussion
