I have had symptoms while I'm at work where air blows in my face, I more times than not smell aroma's such as disinfectants or a sweet smell, then I pass out for about 3 to 4 minutes when I wake up I'm confused and disoriented. Sometimes after these episodes I'm fine and continue as normal but sometimes I have to go home and go to sleep and when I wake up I'm normal again.
I went to my family physician starting 7years ago, being sent to neurologist, cardiologist, having drug testing, sleep test, mri, eeg etc every test showing nothing is wrong with me.
I finally had my physician refer me to a research neurologist which while I was in his office the symptoms occurred there, first time for everything. And he said I am having seizures. He stated he didnt understand why this wasn't detected sooner.
I'm waiting for another visit with him but again I have had an MRI and an eeg and am now taking medication. As disruptive as I'm finding out seizures are I actually cried when he told me I had seizures because all this time I was honestly thinking I was just crazy or maybe I was just imagining I was having symptoms.
This has affected my life for so long in so many directions....anyway
I have been placed on short term disability until I guess we can decide what I have to do because I can't drive and when I go to work its guaranteed this is going to happen to me at least two to three times a week.
Recently a friend of mine took me to a quick stop store and there was this car directly in front of us.....and the carborator or something wasn't working properly and there was this odor like a petrolium smell and instantly I passed out.....it was cold outside, which is always one thing I feel is cold air when it starts at work. Anyway I instantly passed out.....my friend said its petrolium and the air has to be a certain temperature (cold) and I was in a confined space. As where I work....today I had another friend go to take me to my home to get somethings...and she had car trouble, again I smelt that smell and I passed out again....again its colder than my normal temperature, I was inside the vehicle when it occurred and I smelt the same thing. Again I passed out immediately.
I have a few questions to anyone out there who might know, please respond. Like I said this has affected my life in every way for seven years.
I am so angry that my physician didn't or couldn't determine what this was, nor the neurologist he originally sent me to. Is this something that one would consider malpractice or is this a common mistake....second, this is the first experience in my life I have ever experienced with seizures, it is possible for those three elements to be present for seizures to be triggered or is this just a coincidence....and third does anyone out there know if this can be treated and if so is it possible that the treatment could stop the seizures if I go back to work in the same conditions.
I really really would appreciate any information anyone has on this and if you have seizures, can you live a normal life or am I going to have to depend on people the rest of my life?
Please anyone let me know any information you might have concerning this
