Here's my story.
I went to my A/E department in April 2007 with severe lower left-sided abdominal pain. I intially thought i'd just caught a stomach bug as i'd been sick a couple of times, but the pain didn't go away, and was excruciating - like nothing i'd ever experinced before. So i ended up in A/E in the early hours of the morning having all sorts of unpleasant tests, blood tests and x-rays. The diagnosis - constipation! Very embarresing, and a humiliating expereince.
So i lived of laxatives for the next few months, until i could hardly stand because of the pain and my husband made me go back to A/E. This time i was admitted to hospital with dehydration, peritonitis and an unexplained abdominal mass. After various tests it turned out that i had a massive cyst on my left ovary, as well as a smaller one on the right! The one on the left had twisted, cutting off the blood supply to my ovary and fallopian tube. I had to have an emergancy laparotomy to remove the cysts, as well as my left ovary and fallopian tube.
So now i'm left with a huge purple scar down my stomach, which is stretched and mis-shapped. And also i wonder what affect all this could have on my fertility. But more to the point, if diagnosis hadn't been delayed for 7 months could the doctors have saved my ovary and fallopian tube, would i have had to go through such aggressive surgery?
