I have been suffering from lower and neck back pain since 2005. I went to Pain Specialist Dr V. in June 2006. She said I had DDD and OA in my back.

By July my pain got worse and now having rib pain and stomach pain and stinging in my middle back. Could not sit for 10 mins without pain.

July 28 I talked her into ordering MRI of middle back after I cried in her office.

Aug 3 I went to family dr who said I had rib out of place and Gastritis. They did order blood test at Quest for ulcer.

Aug 4 MRI showed T-8 spot on my spine and DDD of my middle back too.

Dr V. Called me Aug 5 to say , We need another MRI with contrast and full Body Bone scan immediately. Had to worry whole weekend waiting for week for insurance to approve another one.

Aug 7 I ended up in ER with pain in my Stomach so bad, I said forget my family doctor. They found Ulcers in my upper intestines. Causing inflamation in my ribs and sterum. I told the ER doctor about my spot on my spine, they said to followup with my private dr.

Aug 14 MRI- Came back T-8 Mass covering my vertabra into the sac.
Bone scan showed uptake on the t-8.
DR. V called me upset and wanted me to go to Cancer Center asap to get tested for Lymphoma , or Padgett disease.
I called Moffitt Cancer Center , who said they would call me back within 48 hrs after determining what dr I would see.
3 days later no call back, I called them, they said they had referred my paperwork to wrong dr, and now they could make me appointment with
neurosurgeon on Sept 11, 2006. We only have one neurosurgeon so you will have to wait for his opening.

Another weekend to worry, On monday I started calling neurosurgeons in Tampa, 3 to 4 week wait. So I finally called my Family dr, who know about this on Aug 7 and never called me or made me appt. I insisted he call and get me a earllier appt, SO they did it to get rid of me.
I also told him I ended up in hospital overnite because they failed to find my problem of ulcer the week before.
Another week to wait to see Dr L in Tampa. Finally get to see her Aug 28. SHe looks at my MRI and says I dont know , you shoud see a cancer doctor not me. Oh my gosh all this waiting for answer.
She suggested I start calling Cancer dr in My city until i get someone who will see me right away.

Aug 29 I got out the yellow pages in Lakeland, started calling, no one could see me for weeks. Finally I got a nurse on the line who said fax me your results and I will show them to Dr T and see what he can do.

Dr T, told me I needed to be admitted to hospital and get biopsy right away. He called my family dr and he said he had no admitting RIghts so I would have to wait until I could see DR T in week or so. Dr T only sees patients that have Cancer. So to make a long story short, He sent me to new Family Dr the next day, who put me in hospital right away.

After Cat Scan Aug 31, they determined I had T8 Hemangioma
benign tumor of blood vessels. It is growing so It must be watched it is encasing the sac.

My pain doctor Dr V, is no longer with the Spine Center.
I got rid of my family doctor. My new Family doctor has left the clinic.

So I am starting over trying to find my back problems. Still no answers to my back pain problems,
All those 4 weeks of worrying, when they could of done simple blood test to see if I had cancer. Why did everyone make me worry for over 4 weeks. insane.

  • I feel your pain. Doctors I have found are really not very helpful and we think they're miracle workers, but most seem like they really don't care. Good luck to you.

  • Unresolved pain, with no diagnosis is a real burden. I at one point in my life, I had back pain with no resolve. After much reading and investigating on my problem, I ended up going to a wellness chiropractor; I was a new person. However, thru much of my research I found gallbladder, kidney and or our liver can cause much of the pain you are describing. Look at some natural relief rememdies and the root cause of the pain you are experiencing. Best wishes.lh

Haven't you ever worked with someone who really didn't care about their work, just there for the paycheck? d Some doctors are that way too. I went through pure ***l when my mom had cancer. One oncologist told her she had 3-6 months to live and then the very next week told her he wasn't sure if she had cancer. I asked how he could find out and he told me to take her home and if she died in the next 3-6 months, then she had cancer.

This seems to be a place where stupid ppl keep whining about their misfortune..

  • I was told by a Doctor , that your ALK PHOS is high when cancer is present. So I should be tested for that. Which I had normal ALKPHOS in my blood.

I am in the middle of that testing now. I have been slowly losing my mobility and have severe pain in my left hip and leg. I had back surgery about 6 months ago with no relief. I was finally sent to UCLA and they requested more MRI's and CT scans as well as the Athena panel. My MRI shows a 4mm benign hemangioma within the T8 vertabtal body and a 1.5cm in the T4.So after being diagnosed with neuropathy and fibromyalgia I am hopeful something can now be done with my illness.I hope your outcome will be positive as well. The Athena test is very costly, but they are available.

I did get ssdi last Feb. so at least I don't have to sit at desk anymore, which caused bad back pain. I decided not to have anything done about t-8 hemangioima. It amazed me how many doctors i went to and they did not want to comment on my problem. I did PT for couple years, but when i stopped sitting at desk all day i got better. Good luck to you.
