My 77 year old mother was misdiagnosed for 3 years with Alzhimers disease. She was a very active woman and became very confused and bed ridden. I had to fight with several doctors just to have her tested for Lyme, almost getting down on my knees to beg for a Lyme test. She has been tested 4 times since 2003 and everytime she has had the western blot test she consistantly tested higher. She was positive in 2003, 2004,2005, and now again 2007. Because of misdiagnosis it has now entered the brain, it is in her spinal fluid. This is the third time she is on IV antibotic treatment and I think she was taken off of the treatment too soon the other two times. I still have to fight with doctors to have her tested for other tick borne diseases which they seem to refuse to do stating that these diseases do not come from the part of the country dispite me stating that she traveled.Doctors seem to not know much about this horrible disease or lie about it.I think the health department isn't keeping up on reporting this epidemic due to economial reasons from tourists, hunters, hikers skiers and outdoors people.I beg people to please have their elderly family checked for Lyme if they were very active and then suddenly decline quickily.Reply Follow This Thread Stop Following This Thread Flag this Discussion
