Kidney Stone removal

Went to emerg Oct 6th by ambulance. (Thought I was dying) but was diagnosed with 9 mm, 7 mm and 5 mm kidneys stones in my right kidney. Was advised by the end of the day that the 5mm stone was eliminated.

Sent home with t3's and percocet, told that I was on my own and that the remaining larger stones might either pass or might remain forever...

Fine from then until Oct 16th when the severe pain, vomitting resumed. Oct 17th went back to hospital, stayed overnight and they said the 9mm stone was now lodged in the ureter, the 6mm still in the kidney, and that they had to do surgery. Sent hom,e and told the dr. would call.

Drank a uratonic tea the same night, Oct 18 and within 12 hours I thought I had passed something. Was called into hospital on Oct 19 for a pre-surgical consultation and the doctor advised that there is no way I could pass a 9mm stone. Dr.'s said Nov 1st was the earliest he could do the work on me.

Another week went by pain free.

On Oct 29 saw my family dr who listened to my concers and prescribed another ultrasound. Unfortunately all the labs were booked solid and the earliest time I could get the ultrasound was 4pm on Oct 31st. (Hardly enough time to get results before my 6am Nov 1 surgery).

Anyway had surgery yesterday, scope and laser and stent and more t-3's, vomitting and anti-biotics. The pain was intolerable.

Back today to have stent removed and the dr. said he that he didn't find the 9mm or 5mm stone. I told him that I expressed the fact that I thought I passed something back on the 19th !! He said he asked me if I still had pain that day and that I said yes. I reminded him that I said I had a small pain (sometimes) but that I also told him I thought I passed something !!!

Anyways, surgery for nothing. Is this a malpractice case or not?

  • No its probably not malpractice, but you got a raw deal. BTW- Cranberry juice and/or capsules, along with Fresh parlsey steeped in boiling water with fresh lemon will cause kidney stones to pass. If you will put yourself on a regimine of drinking a glass of cranberry juice several times a week you wont get anymore large stones. If you cant stand the taste of the juice or cant have the sugar- take the capsules. If you suspect you are passing a stone, then use the parsley and lemon. If you suspect you HAVE passed a stone, you also need an antibiotic to avoid getting a kidney infection. My Dad and I both have had these for years and the cranberry juice really does work. BTW- dont start using ANY of these things if you have large kidney stones that need to be removed. Use it after they are cleared to keep from getting new ones.
