Hi,
I'm a 23 year old gay male and have only had protected anal sex. I have had unprotected oral sex 4 times. I have had anal sex twice in my life. I haven't been sexually active in two years. I have had an STD test in the past year and came out clean. However, there has been this rash on my groin for the past year that will not go away. I have been to the dermatologist and they brushed it off. I'm going back next week to get a real diagnosis for it but I have worried about it. It doesn't seem like much just 3 red scaly marks on the left side of my groin that in certain light don't even show. However, I've also had an itchy buttocks with two red pimple like marks on each butt cheek toward the center of the buttocks. I do not have a picture of that but I do have a picture of the one of my groin because I have a feeling they may be separate things. Please help with any suggestions as what it may be. The groin does not seem to itch but the buttocks do. I know I should be getting help from a real doctor which I am in the process of so please don't leave any comments like that. I'm just seeking other opinions. I have done so much research and can't seem to find a picture of a groin that looks like it. It has been effecting my life way too much so I am going to find out what it is soon but just thought some comments won't hurt. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Get that blood test for herpes 2, IgM and IgG right away. You may need an antiviral.

  • Dear IRL718, I can relate! I've had a rash for years now and the doctors brushed it off, too. I just figured out recently that the rash flares when I'm stressed which has been most of the time for the last six years. When the stress lets up, the rash goes away but it's not long before it comes back because of another stressor in my life. Yours looks good compared to mine (which involves pus!)...wanna trade? :D I hope you find the answer!kkirchner6959@yahoo.com

  • Have you tried Benedryl to see if the rash will go away? Could be an allergy to something you eat or product you use.

Reading on several sites, they say that that one test is worthless.http://www.medhelp.org/forums/STD/messages/2978.htmlPlease consider having the Herpeselect done- this will test both types.I hope all goes well for you!

  • Hi IRL, Posting a picture of the rash is always a great thought, unfortunately, this pic really doesn't show enough detail to get much information. (It is sorta hard to get a good picture of your own rash!) From what you have described and the details of the picture, it looks like three discrete quarter sized patches, which you said had a scaly texture across the top. This really doesn't sound at all like herpes. Herpes infection has a different presentation that I and others have talked about elsewhere on this forum (including a viral prodrome and flu-like illness which you dont describe). It could be eczema, contact dermatitis from your underwear, tinea cruris commonly referred to as 'jock itch'... Without knowing too much about what is going on, those are just some things for you to think about before you see your PMD
