I am a 43 year old male. I have been a heavy beer drinker for many years and I started to have RUQ pain in June 06 after eating or while bending over.I am a horticulturist. I had a physical and ultrasound which found nothing abnormal. After I quit drinking, the pain intensified, and began in my LUQ also. A ct scan was normal, another ultrasound was normal, I was convinced I had liver disease but my doctor said no,"you have a sick gallbladder". During the surgery to remove my gallbladder my surgeon noted 'macronodular cirrhosis' and did a biopsy which confirmed this. He also told me "dont worry,at least you dont have portal hypertension". A recent ct scan shows mild splenomegaly, which appears to suggest portal hypertension. I have high ammonia levels, and some hepatic encephalopathy. Can spleens and livers hurt? Mine sure seem to.I've lost 100 lbs in 6 months. I haven't worked in 5 months, and it's getting old. I'm wondering if i've made thing worse by agreeing to under go chloesystechomy without a liver biopsy first. One GI doc told me to lose another 20 lbs and see him in 3 months. I was losing a pound every two days. I have tremendous pain and my soon to be former PC says it's probably depression. any comments would be appreciated.Reply Follow This Thread Stop Following This Thread Flag this Discussion
