an article was released that explains the story, http://articles.citypages.com/2008-05-14/feature/mystery-illness-fells-young-man/ also the family has a personal website at web.mac.com/haakane

The boy was prevented from seeing physcians all the while suffering from an infection in the brain. This time it wasn't the parents that prevented the medical care, it was the physicians. They reported nothing was wrong with the child medically, and it was the mother who was ill in her beleif that her child had an illness that did not exist. Child protection almost removed the child but then they realized something wasn't right with the physician's story.
