Epididymitis: Getting frustrated!

Hi guys. Wondering if anyone could help me out here. In 4 years, I have been given a diagnosis of epididymitis 3 times, on both left and right testicles at different times. Odd, since I am not sexually active. Having been prescribed doxycycline, the infection/swelling seemed to be clearing up for the first almost 9 days of treatment. Last night, my right testicle really swelled up on me. Laid down, elevated my right leg, grabbed an ice pack and took some pain pills. Woke up this morning and while still a bit tender, the swelling had decreased significantly. It has not as of yet decreased to the size of my other testicle, though, nor did it during the initial improvement (though it got close).

As you might imagine, I'm getting frustrated. It seems to come and go as it pleases and I can't figure it out. A few years ago I went to a urologist and was told I had a small varicose vein but nothing that should cause problems. Either lucky me for having both or one or both of these doctors are wrong. I just want to feel like myself again. This is getting ridiculous. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • You need a second opinion. If you have swelling then something is wrong and you need to know what... Sorry I am not of more help... Kiera

  • No, it's OK. I understand what you mean and am planning on getting a second opinion. There can be swelling with epiditymitis, but my concern is that is it keeps coming and going. Hopefully this is something that can be cured with a different set of meds.
