hello all...

just wondering about this...

on the left side of my neck my lymph node is swollen... and i believe its fighting an infection in some boil just above it...

i went to the dr's about 8 months back and she agreed with me...she said if i tried not to touch the boil it should go away in about 6 months....

of course now the boil still hasnt gone...because i have poked n touched it by accident... and it started to hurt recently which i have been using antiseptic cream on..

i have checked the symptoms for lymphoma and really i dont have any of them...i do have tiredness a lot but iv had that for years due to lack of sleep and not eating the right foods... and i have had since about december a rash... it was on arms, legs and elbows (some people thought it could be psoriasis) but on my arms and elbows it has completely gone and now theres just an odd few blotches on my legs that sometimes itch but its not bad

what would you think the best bet would be? keep putting antiseptic cream on the boil (since recently when iv put it on it had bought the boil out a bit... so hopefully that will clear)? or would i seriously need to see a dr again?

thanks

  • hello,I had a knot come up on the back of my head a couple weeks ago. Went to dr. next day, he removed it two days later and a day after that called me and asked me to go to the oncologist. Went to the oncologist that afternoon and oncologist told me that what the other dr removed was Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma (as per the pathologist). Well, the oncologist scheduled me for a PET scan the next week and that the PET scan would pick up the smallest of any cancer in my body and that if anything showed up, it would be cancer as they would inject a radioactive glucose in and IV and have it go through my body prior to the scan. If any cancer, the cancer would "suck up" the radioactive glucose and glow under the scan indicating a malignancy. Went for the follow up with the oncologist and he said the PET scan showed two lymph nodes enlarged and malignancies in them. He told me I had three options since the rest of my body was perfectly clean, 1, radiation, 2. chemo, 3. a combination of the two. Then he told me he wanted to look at one more picture and he would be able to better explain it to me. He said wait a few minutes and come back in to his office. So we did. Then he says that he doesn't think I have cancer but wants to send me for a CT scan and a biopsy of the lymph nodes in my neck. I am floored. I am no closer to knowing if I do or don't than I was two weeks ago. What the heck? I thought the PET scan would show CANCER? IF anything showed up on it, it would with 99% accuracy be cancer? First he said I do have cancer and need chemo and/or radiation and 30 minutes later he says he doesn't think I do but I need another scan and biopsy anyway. What do you guys think?? Any medical professionals on here?

  • oh, just a little history. I was diagnosed with epstein barr virus a few months ago. The regular dr told me that there is a slightly increased risk of these types of cancers (lymphoma, hodgkins disease) when a patient already has the Epstein Barr Virus. So I already had that against me and when this all came up, it kind of made it all make more sense. I don't know if the Dr is just waiting for a better idea of exactly what kind or what stage of cancer it is or if he really thinks I don't have it or what. I am so confused now I don't even know what to do.

It started with a crazy itchy rash (all over me) that none of the doctors could diagnosis. Steroids calmed it for a while, but then it would return. Next I had a knot under my left arm which I later realized was a swollen lymph node. I eventually had a really sore throat from an additional swollen lymph node in my neck. That one seemed to come and go. When I finally got a CAT scan, there was also a badly swollen node in my chest. I would never ignore a long-term swelling or an unusual rash. My advice would be see an oncologist and have some tests run.My oncologist told me the rash was actually caused by my scratching, but the itchiness stemmed from the disease.Good luck.
