Hi. I have been having strange off/on symptoms for the past 2 years. I have rashes on my face, neck, chest, and low back that never go away but are better when I don't have the other symptoms. When the symptoms are at their worse, I get swollen glands, low grade fevers, my hair falls out at an alarming rate, I have extreme fatigue, I can't sleep well, I get awful muscle aches, and my skin gets really sensitive to the sun (even with SPF 30 my rashes get worse). Lately, I have also been experiencing chest pain when I breath deeply. I have asthma but this is not from that. My doctor doesn't seem to listen and has chaulked all my symptoms up to insomnia! How do I find a doctor that will at least look into these symptoms and take me seriously?

  • I know it's hard, but continue going to different doctors until you find the perfect one that is knowledgeable and that really cares. This doctor that you have now, from what you describe, sounds like he is just giving up on you. My suggestion is to go see a rheumatologist. If you think you have lupus, and you haven't even begun blood tests and other testing, I have to warn you that you have a long road ahead of you with this. Please don't let anyone tell you it's in your mind, keep searching for the perfect doctor, they are out there. Don't give up hope with it either. For the rashes, I believe you can get a biopsy of the rash to confirm whether or not it's lupus. Ask for blood tests to test for lupus(although not all the time do blood tests come back positive.) Also, please get to a doctor to get the chest pain checked out, it could be anything, let tests get run on you to rule out anything serious. Good luck!
