Could this be lupus?

I hope the images included work. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if this looks like lupus? I'm 34/female. I'm on medication for high blood pressure and thyroid issues. About a week ago, I noticed red marks on my legs. It looked almost like blood smears. I thought at first it was razor burn - yeah, lol, right? :o Anyway, the rash didn't go away. It doesn't itch or hurt. It's just red, and in places it's like a red-brown smear looking blotch, and in other places it's like red rings with a non-red center/skin toned.

They are all over my legs and there is a splotch or two on my thighs, right above the knees. Again, no itching, burning. They are not sores, and they aren't raised or bumpy. They are flat/smooth against the skin. It's definitely not ringworm - I had ringworm once when I was about 6 from playing with a neighbor's cat. This isn't the same. I took a benedryl after I noticed them - and that had no effect.

As for symptoms, well, just generally tired and some water retention, but I do keep crazy hours. I do get frequent headaches, and heartburn, but I attribute that to working a stressful job. Otherwise, I'm okay. The rings and blots appeared on my legs a little over a week ago - a week and a couple of days. The only thing I have done differently in my routine, is my husband brought home a jar of banana peppers and homemade eggplant/peppers salsa from a friend. I ate a few of the banana peppers - something I never usually eat. But being they would go with what I was making, I cut some up and put it in our meal that first night. The next day I noticed the start of the blots on my legs. The rings have gotten slightly larger in some places, but gone away in others.

Can anyone tell me what this is? Does it look like lupus? I hope I'm just being paranoid, but I can't rest thinking about it. And I'm down to my last twenty dollars so I can't afford to go to the doctor for blood testing right now.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • I sure did! Thankfully it is NOT lupus. It's a breakout of eczema triggered by food allergies. The first time this happened, I ate peppers. The doctor put me on a round of prednisolone (spelling?) and it cleared right up. I had this come up again recently after I ate ice cream. Some products just seem to trigger it. It takes about five days to clear up once I got the medication for it. The pills were cheap, roughly $18.00 USD.

  • Did you ever determine what this was? I have what appears to be the same thing.Mine supposse to be PITIRIASIS ROSADA DE GIBERT (glooge it), you cant really do anything about it, except to wait to clear up, Derms are not sure what causes it. (but it is VIRAL). Is not a scary condition, for what they told me, and is not contagious either, but it sure does not look pretty to me. I cant show my legs in public, i got it once on my arms and people were like EWWWWW is that contagious! OH well! what can i do with others people ignorance.
