Pulmonary nodule

I recently learned I have a pulmonary nodule and of course I'm worried it could be malignant. I smoked around half a pack a day for six years. What are the odds I have lung cancer? The other thing I'm wondering is if it could be silicosis. I owned a surface mining operation for 29 years and the rocks I was drilling were 60 % silicon. Often times at the end of the day it was difficult to exhale and I'd start coughing mud out of my lungs.

Today I asked my doctor if he thought silicosis could have caused this nodule and he quickly dismissed it and said smoking was most likely cause. So then I told him I smoked for only six years and operated rock drills for 29 and he didn't say anything.

What do you guys think?
