I am trying to understand this horrible disease. My Mom has been fighting it for years now. She has never been a drinker. She developed hers from a fatty liver. Just in the last few weeks she has been getting really confused, but it is getting worse. It is really scaring the family. Just here lately she had 6 1/2 liters of fluid removed off of her stomach. The Doctors told us that her confusion could be caused because her ammonia levels are high. I guess I'm just wanting to know what to expect next. I hate to see her in pain!!! She is the most amazing woman I have ever meet, and I am blessed to call her MOM!!!

QUESTIONS THAT GO THROUGH MY HEAD...
*How long does she have
*Is she in the last stage
*What can I do to help her.....

QUESTIONS THAT GO THROUGH MY HEAD...*How long does she have*Is she in the last stage*What can I do to help her.....It depends on the what stage she is in. I've read in many articles, that if the patient is in Stage 1 or 2 , with no alcohol consumption and healthy diet she can live upto 5-10 years. But Stage 3 and 4 needs medical attention frequently and alcohol needs to be stopped - Period. Otherwise liver transplantation may be required.Know the disease by referring to articles and forums.Consult your doctor and get an clear idea of what stage she is in and what needs to be done from your end. Tell the doctors clearly on all the medications / drugs including supplements taken by your Mom.Ask questions and get clear answers. Based on those, you can decide on how you can help your mother. Always be there for her and give her hope that she will be alright.My father - in - law was in ICU due to bleeding and blood vomit. Doctors have told us that his liver is 80% damaged. In 5 days he got transferrred to normal ward, at that time he was confused and there was withdrawal symptons. After taking medication, he is much better now But 2 days back due to breathing problem again he is back in ICU. We just hope he will recover and my husband is with him day and night. I can understand that its really tough to see our loved ones in pain. But try your best to make things right, rest it upto god. Be Strong.I hope i was of some help,my prayers are there for your mom and your family {hugs}
