I have been diagnosed with Final stages of stage four cirrhosis of the liver. Yet my blood tests (liver function) still show my liver is functioning normal.
Lately I have been in sever, sever pain with cramping. Not just one spot, but all over the body at one time. It is so painful, that even in public all I can do is scream and cry. I can not stand straight when it happens OR sit down. my legs, arms, hands, feet, stomach, neck etc. all cramp at the same time. I find myself asking God to just take me home it hurts so bad. Is there anyone else that is experiencing this? I can not believe I am the only one.

  • My husband is in Stage 4 of cirrhosis of the liver and experiences severe cramping particularly in his legs and feet. Our doctor advised us to get an over-the-counter medication called "Cal-Mag" which I can tell you worked wonderfully. Since taking one pill a day, husband who had cramps almost every night and whose legs I had to massage each time for his relief, has not had a repeat of the cramps.I am also going to look for the martial arts oil as well. Does anyone know what gets rid of the terrible itching he has all over. I know it is a symptom of end stage cirrhosis called puritus, a buildup of the bile in his skin, but I would like to know if there is any readily available medication to help. The gastroenterologist is hesitant to give him any medication because it might throw off the balance since he is also a diabetic on insulin.Try getting a prescription for Atarax...it should get rid of the itching.

  • I also have the cramping, usually on my torso around my ribcage. I was told that my blood work showed I was deficient in vitamin D3. I've found that if I take 2000 mg I don't have the cramps anymore. I also started taking the complete multivitamin for people that are 50+. It works for me. If I stop taking the D3, a few days later the cramping will come back if I stretch or flex my torso muscles. Hope that helps.

  • I'm also suffering end stage liver failure (I've been given 18 months) and take 2 diuretics (frusamide and spironolactone) which made the cramps far worse. I'm on Sodium restrictions 500mg ideally 1000mg (1gm) maximum and no extra sources of potassium and I'm supposed to keep fluids to 1.5 litres per day (impossible). I get cramps that leave me screaming in pain, scared or unable to move. Regular cramp remedies don't work as, typically, only portions of a muscle will cramp. I just have to sit there crying.I found Magnesium of no help at all, valium (diazepam) is absolutely useless but a vitamin D3 supplement and a zinc supplement (25 micrograms) gave me good results I think. 1 zinc first thing and one at the first signs of cramping does wonders (cramping usually starts at wake up time plus 6.5 hours). I don't know if zinc is toxic or at what amount or how fast it is excreted.I hope this helps anyone.

I have Fibromyalgia and I have Systemic Scleroderma. Both of which seem to be taking over my body even though I'm getting treatment for them as well as RA. Have you found something that helps?

I have extremely bad severe cramps legs and hands mostly. sometimes i cant even walk and i cry praying for it to go away.My Dr tells me he feels we can still clean this all up and looks for a 80 percent improvement. I am not so sure. I wonder how long you live with level 4 liver damage. it is nice to have people to discuss this with

  • I have all over body cramps so bad that I can't even explain the torture I go through. But I have found relief in three different ways....1. Lick about the size of a dime of salt. 2. Caleb Treeze Organic made with cider vinegar, ginger & garlic juice ( tastes like salad dressing!) can buy it at stopslegcramps.com 3. With pickle juice. They all help to reduce the time i have cramps. And if I take any of these three things BEFORE a stressful event I won't even get cramps at all.

  • Yes, my sister has severe charlie horses through her entire body and sometimes all at once. She is in so much pain. Same with you,she has told the doctors but they don't seem to understand.I'm doing some research online trying to find out what causes this. She has bone spurs and degenerative arthritis in her back so I'm wondering if something to do with her nerves blocking something which is creating the charlie horses.I'm still doing some searching. If anyone knows anything please reply to this. Thank you

  • Even if your liver results come back clear. I would still pursue the liver. There are deeper blood tests. Often they just take the ALT and if it doesn't flag anything up they don't do other tests. So ask for more comprehensive full liver profile regardless of whether the ALT comes back clear.
Also even if you are sure your electrolytes are balanced still take something like E-Lyte - three capfuls in 8oz glass water 3 x day. do for a few days to see if it helps. If the water has any type of taste, from salty to sweet it means you have an imbalance in your electrolytes. It may assist.
Its a weird phenomenon. Also test your water to see whats in it. Think about heavy metals and maybe see if you can get a test or hair test to see what comes up. You can have calcium/magnesium blood checks, but it doesn't necessarily tell you what your body cells are up-taking. Cellular health also include a little Phos Chol.
Just a few ideas. There are loads more causes from cramps
