Hello everybody,

I am new to this forum, i read many thread but it is my first time to post something.

Briefly, My mother is 18 years cancer patient. Cancer appeared in breast then moved to bones then to the liver.

She got the cancer in the liver 2 years ago.

We experienced liver cirrhosis symptoms during the last period, she went to the hospital 3 days ago, yesterday she went into comma and she is in the intermediate care.

I watched her few minutes in the intermediate care, her eyes are semi-opened and i could see more white.

Calling her name, she could move her eyes, her head and her hands.

She moved her hands trying to remove the tube from her mouth.

I guess she can hear.

I don't know if we were communicating or not, i cannot tell, i couldn't stand anymore and i left :(

I need your help regarding the questions below.
It might be stupid questions but i hope you help me.

- All i mentioned above is valid within a comma, right ?

- If I tries holding her hand and ask her to press on it if she can hear me, will this be painful to her ? Is she partially conscious ? is this a valid expression ? will she realize that she see/hear me and cannot do anything except moving her hands :( ? will she be feeling moral pain because she is incapable ?

I hope i was clear enough so that you may get the point of my questions and answer me :((((

Sorry for being long and thanks a lot in advance.

Hearing is the last sense to go when people are near/in coma, and while she may not understand the full meaning of what you say, simply hearing your voice will do her more good than you can know. When she is at this stage, old memories will dominate her thoughts... Talk to her about the old times, and things you remember from your shared past. Be strong, and spend as much time with her as you can... You don't have to do anything special... Just sharing time together, even now, will be important to you and her. Good Luck, and GodSpeed
