My ex-wife was born in Swaziland and was treated for bilharzia as a child. About 10 years ago (aged 35) the doctors found that she had cirrhosis of the liver because the bilharzia had not originally been properly treated. I have heard via the kids that she is sick again with liver problems.
I understand the conditions that can be caused by bilharzia but I would like to know whether the children could be affected by the disease. Can bilharzia be passed from mother to child?
