I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on this. My friend's daugher, who is 17 years old, had a urinary tract infection and a few days later became very jaunticed. She has been through blood work, urine tests and ultra sounds and the doctors still don't know what is wrong with her. She has a biopsy scheduled with the top liver specialist at U of P on Wednesday. Her Billiruben is 9, her ALT is 1600!

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Hep AB and C have been ruled out. Mono has been ruled out.

Any input would be appreciated.

  • Was it Autoimmune Hepatitis? It is a rare disease that pops up in cases of young healthy girls. It is quite scary and a real challenge to get over, but I have lived with it for the past 10 years. After the first couple of years, my returned to normal and I have not had any flare ups. If this is the case for your friend's daughter, just hang on. It does eventually get better- it just takes a while.
