My ex took an overdose of Tylenol PM (around 40) then went to sleep. He woke up and was really sick (flu like symptoms) and went to the ER. He was diagnosed with Acute liver failure and was in the hospital for several days. I'm not sure exactly what they did to treat him. He was released and is at his house. He was supposed to go in for follow up appointments. They said (he told me) that he could get better within the month, or not. He is on a diet of only fresh fruit and vegetables and has lost about 40 lbs already (since Jan. 12, 2013). Things don't taste normal to him and it is hard for him to eat. He is sleeping all the time and passs out and has like mini seizures. These are things he is telling me, I haven't seen him. He lives several hours away. I talked to him yesterday and he told me he had gone to the Dr for a follow up and had blood testing. He told me that the Dr said that he is improving. A couple hours after we talked, I received a call from his girlfriend. She told me that he had not gone to the Dr and only thinks that he has. She said that he has been very confused lately. He will sleep for long lengths of time then wake up and not remember where he is or what has happened to him. He will think that he is living in Texas (he lives in Iowa now but we lived in Texas when we first got married) and ask questions like where is a certain ashtray or certain pictures. Strange questions. He went to buy cigarettes (he REALLY shouldn't be smoking, I know) and bought a completely different brand than he has smoked for years. He was completely sure that that is the brand he has always smoked. She says she will have to remind him about who/what his parents are like. He had talked to our kids before talking to me last night. When he got off the phone, he asked her where his kids were at. He definitely knows (or he used to at least) where his kids are. I am extremely worried about him. I'm pretty sure he needs medical attention right now but he isn't going to the doctor because he thinks he already has and is showing improvement. Does/ should he go to the doctor or ER? From what I have been reading online, he should be in the hospital right now if the liver failure is starting to affect his brain/mental functions. Thanks.Reply Follow This Thread Stop Following This Thread Flag this Discussion
