For about 6 months now I have been having an enlarged liver. My fiance first noticed it in bed when he was rubbing my stomach and felt a hard circle type lump. I freaked out and immediately went to the doctor. The doctor felt it and did feel the lump and I was sent for an ultrasound.
Ultrasound came back showing there was a mild enlargement of 17.5cm. All of my blood tests came back normal, but my ERC (which measures inflammation in the body) was 2 points above normal, but my doctor said that wasn't a big deal.
Anyway, I am 24, I have never smoked, never done drugs and I do not abuse alcohol. I do have stress in my life though - completing my last year of school, and I have this constant yet very mild achy feeling in my right side - my liver is always enlarged.
My doctor said she's not concerned because it's only mildly enlarged, but it still bothers me. When I drink alcohol I feel the enlargement more.
I did get a second opinion on this and the other doctor agreed with my primary - there is nothing to do / it's only mildly enlarged. But I can't help but think this ISN'T normal to be feeling your liver and having it ache at times.
FWIW, I'm healthy, thin, generally feel fine most of the time, and I don't have hepatitis, yellowing of the skin etc.
Why doesn't my doctor care?? Should I demand to see a hepatologist?? Does anyone have any experience with this??
