Leg pain that won't go away.

I have had a severe leg pain for over 24 hours, and it doesn't seem like its going to end. At first it was just pain in the front of my upper leg (like a cramp or strained muscle or something). I don't know what I did to it. I'm not really an active person. I really thought it would work itself out. When I awoke though it had grown and i was hurting below the kneecap (still in the front of my leg). It hurts to walk and hurts to move my leg in just about any direction. I've taken ibprofun with no avail. Does anyone have any ideas what it may be? How long should I wait to go to the doctors if it doesn't go away?
