Ankle problem

Hello! I've had a history of ankle sprains from playing basketball, and nothing else serious. Recently, my ankle is constantly feeling sore during and after exercise, and sometimes there will be a sharp pain when I land from a jump. I've never been to a doctor for any of my ankle injuries, and is this a result of not resting my ankle well enough and not having proper treatment?

  • Hi dingybat once you have sprained an ankle a number of times the collective damadge to the ligaments means you have a chronically unstable ankle that is easily sprained again, in other words ligaments and soft tissue that crosses the joint are to lax, a brace may be helpful they can stop the rolling of your ankle that results in a sprain, but they are big and clunky and its likely it would hinder your performance or strapping it up will give it some support, and make it slightly harder for it to be sprained again.
