I am female, 28, 135, 5'8 - Athletic and Healthy... approx four or five says ago I noticed my left knee hurt on the outer area and knee cap area, it looked slightly like a bruise but a dark one that came quick, almost a gray/light purple. Slowly it has begun getting numb, not painful, no pain when I bend over or squat, yes there's pain when I scrub the floors on my knees but I associated that with anything... putting pressure on it wrong. Well today it is extremely numb, to the point of freaking me out and I can feel a slight numbness in my left ankle now also. It's tingly like its fallen asleep and almost feels cold internally but normal warmth to the touch. I am scared it may be a blood clot and I have read that they can be serious, or maybe it's something worse! I however am the type to let it go and it usually goes away. I have never had anything like this happen to me before and it's unnerving. I know most of you will say to go to a Dr. and I plan on it... when my insurance at my new job kicks in on January 9th, otherwise I'll have to pay $100's plus in med bills and I just can not afford it. Has anyone ever experienced this problem and or has any advice or insight to give me. I sincerely appreciate it!

  • I've got the same thing. Woke up one day and just felt it. I also experience a 'stickiness' when bending the knee - like I'm wearing a band-aid on the inside of my knee?! Im Canadian, so I'll go to a doctor sometime this week and report back the diagnosis. Sounds like the same thing: sleeping knee. My guess is it's a pinched nerve and needs massage. http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

  • I've had numbness recently to. I thought it was a sympathetic reaction between my meniscus tear being aggravated and the adjacent nerve bundles. Mine runs down my shin and sometimes up between toes, sometimes across the top of toes. I asked my Orthopedic Surgeons nurse. She said it sounded like a nerve problem and not in the joint. I next asked my Physical Therapist. She said it was a pinched nerve. I next asked my family doctor. She said it was a pinched nerve I next asked my Orthopedic Surgon (Professor of Orthopedics no less) He said it was a pinched nerve. I discovered the numbness could be reduced/eliminated when did really hard Quad sets and held them for several seconds while I pushed my heel out and tipped my toes in/up toward me. Sometimes it worked while doing the same Quads, standing. Your mileage may vary,.. bla... bla... bla...
