For about a month or two, i have been having random bursts of sharp pain on the outside edge of my knee. it is not really inside my kneecap at all, but instead is on the outside of my knee where the 2 bones meet. nothing seems to cause the pain, it can happen during any time no matter what im doing. it is sensitive to the touch however. yesterday it felt as if the pain shot through my knee and know i am having pain on the exact opposite, inside part of my knee. the pain is very random and if it is not a sharp pain, then my knee always feels sore and even a little week. does anybody know what is going on or experienced anything like this? i have read posts where people have had pains like this but they had the pain behind their kneecap while mine is totally separate from my kneecap. any help would be appreciated.

I have knee pain too. The doctor says to take calcium so thats what I suggest to you, take calcium pills (1000mg) once a day and exercise. If the skin around your knee is sensitive you might be getting shingles, if it breaks out in red patches go to the doctor. I had shingles and it is very painfull. I may only be 16 years old but I have experienced alot this past year(cancer diagnosed). Good Luck ^^

  • Hi. I have exactly the same symptoms as the original post: excruciating sharp pain just outside to the left of my left knee cap that lasts about 10-15 seconds. It happens randomly, without a trigger, and occurs while sitting, lying down, standing walking, sleeping, etc. without warning (just as in the original post). Has anyone had any luck figuring out the cause? I've seen a couple people mention piriformus syndrome and they say they had some luck treating that. My orthopedist diagnosed me with a torn meniscus and an impinging synovium. I had surgery to correct those, but these symptoms persist. Can anyone help?
