I am going on my 8th week post TKR and it buckles on occasion in the front and the back of the knee, but not at he same time. Sometimes the front and sometimes the back. My PT doesn't know why and I will continue to exercise and swim for a month and see what happens before calling the Doctor. Any feedback would be appreciated. Also, I am in no pain and have 126 ROM and 0 extension. So, I am doing well in those departments.

It may be due to reduced strength and control of the knee following a knee replacement which would theoretically improve with appropriate strengthening exercises over time. Your physiotherapist should be able to assess if this is likely. Sometimes giving way or buckling may occur due to pain inhibition of muscle contraction which usually occurs due to a painful event but this sounds unlikely given you are not in any pain. • I had same problem on my second tkr. It turned out that the orthopedist did not put a thick enough plate in the joint . A second operation took care of it 3 years hence. Why three years? I assume it was so the orthopedist could blame it on "wear" and collect Medicare. Sad isn't it?
