My 15 year old had a ultra sound done and one kidney is 6 cm and the other is 12 cm. What is the size of a healthy kidney for a 15 year old. I have read the a kidney 9 cm and < is not a good sign but I don't know about the one that is 12 cm.

Thanks for your help

  • Hi,I just came across your post. I can relate to it. My son, who is 17 years of age, has been disgnosed with kidney size variation. One kidney is 10.5 cms, the other is mere 4.6 cm. While the tests are going on, can you please guide me as to what are possible reasons? What was the outcome of your son's kidneys' size? You wrote in 2007, so maybe you know the real reasons behidn this. Thanks
