Hey guys! I've been suffering from bronchial asthma for years. Last year I undergo ct scan. During that time my doctor ask me if I'm an asthmatic & I told her 'yes', she requested for a serum creatinine test before the ct scan, they took some blood from me & after an hour the doctor found out that they should use a non-ionic stuff and said that I'm allergic, I don't know what that stuff is but she told me that it is important because if they got mistaken in injecting medicine or drugs to me, it could damage my kidney. What bothers me is the serum creatinine result. It indicates a +6 or -6 result, I can barely recall. Can someone explain to me what does it means? Thanks!

Thanks! The thing that they didn't want to inject in you is a contrast substance of some sort. It is used in certain CT scan procedures so you can see the internal parts more clearly in the machine. These contrasts can damage kidneys, especially when kidneys involved aren't 100% well, which is why they didn't want to use it. Regarding your creatinine results, I don't really know what you mean. Often the range is something like 0.5 to 1.3 give or take a few decimals depending on the lab.
