kidney or gallbladder concern

I went to the MD today for a routine evaluation and he did a urinalysis which showed moderate blood in my urine and 1+ protein. I am really scared. He said I needed to see a urologist, which I am scheduled for in 3 weeks. I hope to get a sooner appointment, though, as I will call in when they are open tomorrow. Of course, I always fear the worst, i.e., cancer, kidney disease, etc. Kidney stones or gallbladder stones would be a much better option, as far as I am concerned. Has anyone ever experienced this type of thing?

Has anyone ever experienced this type of thing?hi, i am 27 years old and had a similar experience. routine check up-- blood and protein in urine and high levels of creatinine also. was refereed to a urologist, after several tests founr nothing. then referred to nephrologist, had kidney biopsy done. found out 5 months ago that i have IGA nephritis (kidney disease) only common in about 5% of population. will be on medidine to control but not cure disease. abour 40% of people with this have kidney failure and getting on the list for a transplant. will live everyday like it's my last!

  • Hi there. I am so sorry to hear about your condition; sometimes I get in a mood where I feel sorry for myself until I hear about someone else going through things, too. I had a urine culture and it did not show any cancer cells and then just had a CT scan of my kidneys and urinary bladder, but have not heard anything, yet. Will have a cystoscopy coming up in the next 1-1/2 weeks. I believe, sometimes, the waiting is the most difficult part. I hope that things work out well for you and that your kidneys maintain their function so you don't have to be on the kidney transplant list. My cousin had a heart transplant about 11 years ago due to alcoholism affecting his heart and he has been sober since that point in time and is doing very well with his new heart. You are such a young age to have to face such a health problem. Hang in there.

  • Beading Mama:I suggest that you see a nephrologist not a urologist, or both perhaps. Sounds like you have a kidney concern and a nephrologist has more experience and training with kidney problems.
