Kidney inflamation

Hi, I'm new to the site, and was wondering if anyone had any answers for me. My docter found blood in my urine, which could only be seen by the microscope. I was referred to a urologist. I've been feeling very tired, and have a discomfort/dull pain on my side. Also, my mid back has been hurting me. He had ordered 3 day urine tests, which came back negative, and an altrasound. He did see something in the ultrasound, and sent me to have a catscan with contrast. They had seen something in the catscan, and I was called a few hours after the test, saying that I needed to have an MRI kidney, and an MRA renal, ASAP. Well, I went to see the docter today, and he said that both my kidneys were imflammed, and prescribed an antibiotic, and ordered another 3 day urine test. I'll see him again in ten days. Does anyone know what causes inflamation of the kidneys?

  • Hi Mari,It sounds like you have a kidney infection if there is blood in your urine. the dr. can give you numerous kinds of meds to take. Ask him about bactrim, macrodantin, mandelamine, keflex, or ciproflaxin. Cipro is one of the strongest ones out there that will or should wipe out any kidney infection you may have. If your system is like mine your white blood cell count will be high which will cause pain in the kidney area(sides-about waist high or in your back area),fever, tiredness and cause kidney infection or inflamation in the kidneys. I have dealt with this problem for 32 years(chronic kidney disease) and the symptoms sound alot like the ones I have had myself. I am just not sure why the dr. is having you come in and see him so much. You should defintely be rechecked though to make sure it goes away. Hope this helps.

  • Well, I visited him again, and another urine test had done, where he found a lot more blood, than last time. He scheduled me for a cystoscopy retrograde. I will be put under general anestesia, and he is prepared to remove anything he might find. He also mentioned a dye, to see the kidneys. Will they be a lot of pain after the procedure, and how long should it take for recovery? I'm scared.
