Hi I am a 35 yr old female. I suffer from chronic uveitis and mild AS. I also have had more than my share of UTIs. The past month I have had all symptoms of a UTI- frequent needing the loo, slight burning sensation but urine sample showed no infection. My ankles keep swelling up(i am not overweight-126lb) and i feel sick quite often and have no energy. Have been back to my GP but he isn't being very helpful. After doing some internet research I am worried about a kidney problem, does anyone think my symptoms would suggest kidney probs and what tests should I ask my GP to run? many thankx

  • I've been experiencing kidney pain and I'm sometimes tired, at first I was being treated for UTI but my lower back pain never went away. She suggested that I have a kidney ultrasound and they mustv've seen something unusual and now I'm being instructed to have a cat scan of the kidney which will allow them to see inside my entire body so they will most definitely know what the problem is. I am 31 years old, healthy female and I work out 4-5 times a week so I'm scheduled for a cat scan. I think you should at least get an ultrasound so they can see if they see anything. I encourage you to not wait until you get extremely sick to see about your health. I'm taking the initiative to see about mine and you can too. Take care of yourself.

  • I had a recurring infection that could never be isolated until I was catheterized (not fun!) because it turned out to be anaerobic and would never be isolated by standard methods. If you're worried about your kidney health have your GP run a renal panel on your bloodwork-creatinine levels, BUN, GFR, the whole nine yards. If something is amiss, those tests should catch it.
