  • My daughter had the same problem. We went through lots of antibiotis, several doctors and even surgery......no diagnosis. Finally, I took her to a nephrologist who immediately diagnosed her with renal tubular acidodis. Ask you doctor to check you for this!!!All you need are blood and urine tests.

  • I have had kikdney problems over the last 8 years. I am 26 years old, i have had kidney and bladder infections constantly. Finally one day 3 years ago i fainted, i was having heart paputaions and I was always feeling weak. When i was given ( for the millionth time) an ultrasound the found that the right kidney had failed almost completly to 1% and shrunk to the size of a quarter. I wasnt diagnosed with anything. I ahve taken so many antibiotics and pain killers that I eneded up taking a course just learn more about them. A year later and still in so much pain it was unbareble the dr's finally took what was left of the kidney out in hopes that it would stop the pain. Well after healing adn many nasty scars, Im in trouble with pain developing on my left side now and still having infections, with STILL no diagnosis. Why aret the Dr;s worried?? and why cant they find a problem woth me?? I always feel sick in my stomach and am TIRED and in pain. Anyone have any ideas. SOmeone said it sounded like Chrones diasease, because i do have bowel issues as well.

  • To: thankful momor anyone with experience or knowledge of renal tubular acidosis. Please tell me how the doctor tested for this (do you know the particular test names?). I think I might have this - I have all the symptoms, but as far as I know have never been tested. From what I read, I don't think they can diagnose this with regular blood tests (or one type can't be diagnosed with regular tests). Is this a common kidney disorder? Do nephrologists know much about it? Can anyone recommend a doctor who knows about it?

  • what does kidney pain or discomfort feel like? I have had an ache on my left side, a little below my ribs for a month now and recently it has turned into stabbing pains that I can feel in my pelvis too.the doctor thinks it's Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and wants to do laparoscopy surgery. I have no other symptoms for PID, expcept I had vaginitis and cystitis a month ago. I am unsure what to think.please tell me what a kidney feels like!!

Have you seen a urologist? The urologist should suggest, if you stones are not moving down and out and still causing severe pain, that a procedure called a lithotripitor be preformed in order to break up all your stones. Remember to drink the cranberry juice (100%) everyday and ask (or tell, as the case may be) your GP to check your potassium blood serum level. This will ensure that your electrolytes and minerals are in balance.

  • Did any of you with kidney pain first have bladder infection pain (burning urine etc)? This happened to me, I had a UTI for 2 months, took antibiotics the whole time, then it went away and then my lower back started to hurt (been 1 month). I thought this was a kidney infection, but it is not pain where the kidneys are (right above the waist) it is more around the hips, can this still be a kidney infection?

Do nephrologists know much about it? Can anyone recommend a doctor who knows about it?Hi, I was diagnosed with renel tubular acidosis type 2, three years ago. I was referered to a professor Dr J G Odonnell at Northampton General Hospital from my consultant due to excessive stone formation, which causes me lots of pain in my kidneys, renel colic, infections, ect.. I was told type 2 is inherited, and is a very rare disorder ,my children have a 50/50 of having it. Im lucky that they can treat my type. I have to take 4 sodium bicarbonate capsules a day, to help prevent the formation of stones. I dont know for sure what type of tests they done, but I did a urine collection over 48hr period, so presume urine tests are required. Sorry I cant be of any more help about the condition as Im also trying to find out more about it.

  • Miafaye - your symptoms sound like kidney stones - not PID. I've had kidney stones 3 times and those are exactly the symptoms I had.

  • I have been going through right sided flank pain since 2001 following a hysterectomy. I had a hematoma that obstructed the ureter. Then 2 years later, I had the right ovary removed and again had an obstruction. I have had many CT scans and IVP's and it all comes up normal. My urologist just thinks I am dealing with post surgical pain. I drink cranberry juice as often as I can stand and take the cranberry pills. I also attempt to limit my caffene intake. I still have pain and frequent infections. I am open to any suggestions!

  • Hi, i'm 17 years old, currently finishing up high school. For about 8 months i have been getting unberable pain in both sides of my back, i normally ignore all pains that i get, cause i tend to think the worst when i find out whats wrong, but about 2 weeks ago i went to my doctors office to get some antibiotics for the bronchitis i always have, then she told me i had laryngitis, which isnt big deal but i'm always sick, and have had bronchitis 13 times since December. i know i have have an extremely low imunesystem, but i never knew that it leads to catching every airborne virus and what not. i decided i would just go home and take the antibiotics and see if that had anything to do with the shooting pains i was recieving. about 2 weeks before that appointment i had a fever, and it wont go away, its been ranging from 99-102 degrees. i figured the meds would take care of the fever as well, but for almost a whole month i had a fever. this morning when i went to school, i went to the nurse to take my temperature like i had been, and it was 103.2, i felt fine but i was also half asleep. when i looked at people they looked like blobs and the nurse knew something was wrong with me, so she checked my pulse and it was 144 and my blood preasure was 180 over 90, she told me to stop hyperventilating and then i guess i passed out. when i arrived to the emergency room, a man woke me up, and told me i have kideny disease, and that i have pneumonia and that i was close to dying. i'm staying at the hospital for the next few days, i cant get surgery until i build my immune system up, dont know how long thats going to take, but they wont tell me whats exactly wrong with me, but this is really ******g me off. my dad refuses to tell me, and whenever my boyfriend comes into the room he just looks at me and crys and my dad does too. i have no idea whats going on, but maybe since i've explained my symptoms, someone who has a basic knowledge of this stuff could possibly inform me, i have asthma if that helps any. just can someone PLEASE tell me what could possibly happen to me, i'd like to know when i'm going to get the ***l out of this place. thank you, any advice helps.

  • You REALLY need to stop taking so many antibiotics. All your doing is keeping your immune system low and therefore it can't fight anything. You need to see a naturopathic doctor. Go to your local health food store and find a book on immunodifficiencies. You should start taking garlic as it is a NATURAL antibiotic. But first I really think you need to make an appointment with a naturopathic doc and work on stabalizing your failing immune system. NO ONE should take as many antibiotics as your discribing, it will lead you to having NO good bacteria in your intestional tract to fight off any colds/infections you come across. Also since you have probably already damaged your good bacteria in your GI tract you are hopefully already supplamenting with Acidopholus pills... I hope you are because it sounds like with your current health issues all the anitbitic therapy has just killed any active immunity your body has. I hope it gets better but I am not kidding, you need to NOT be continuing with the mass amounts of antibiotics, you need to use some other sort of therapy that BOOSTS immune function, not kills everything.

  • I have had kidney/bladder infections in the past. It started when I was 18 and the first one I had to go to the emergancy becuase I was feeling faint and a temprature of 103. for me it almost always starts in this order : yeast/bladder/kidney within about 2-3 days. they gave me antibiotics and it went away...for about 2 months then I got it again. This patteren happend for the next 3 years and they just considered it a cronic UTI. One day, being very tired of this problem I went to new routs and I stumbled on this free CD that talks about herbs so I listened about a few herbs and it mentioned about Vinegar. It was worth the shot and I took RAW apple cider vinegar for 2 months. Lone behold it took care of my kidney and bladder infection for the next 4 years! I also had noticed that when I didn't eat ANY sugar/bread that my bladder infection felt better as well. I recently had a kidney/bladder infection about a year ago and treated it with the vinegar and also had some Uva Ursi capsules. treated it no problem. I was eating raman noodles and Rice A roni for this lastmonth to save money a ...but Lone behold I got a yeast/bladder and soon Kidney infection. This one has been very stubborn though. I noticed that it seemd to happen when I binged on junk food from looking at my past. I took the vinegar like usual and seemed to cure the Kidney infection like ususal withing 24 hours but I contuned to fight my yeast/UTI for a month now. It almost seems like it became resistant to the vinegar... I've been experimenting with many things and end I ended up using the STRICT candida diet along with "candistroy" and taking diced fresh garlic cloves everyday with Uva Ursi tea. After Candidtroy was gone I (It did help) went to Paragon because it was on clearence and It did have many good things like nantural antibiotics and antifungles. I've been on Paragon for a week now and I think I can say that my yeast problem is finally gone so far my bladder infection is almost non existant.I had no kideny problems except for 2 days ago. I started to feel flu-like symptoms and I started taking Vinegar again. today I don't have the "sick" symptoms" anymore but still Kidney pain... I'm going to keep taking Vinegar/garlic for this one to see if it goes away. It doesn't feel as bad as it did last night but still hurts. For people who want to try Vinegar and garlic I'll tell you how much I have taken. Of course I'm not a doctor so take it at your own risk. If you have a really high fever more than 24 hours after taking this then you might want to go to the doctors.Raw Apple Cider Vinegar:3 TB 3 times a day (you can't take less, not even a TB less)(up to 4 TB every 4 hours but no more or you'll feel dizzy)*you should also eat something before taking this much vinegar*also other benifits of vinegar I have found out is losing weight (but I'm underweight so it's not really a benifit to me)and more energy after about a couple weeks to a month. Garlic:start with one clove to see how you do, whne I first did this 1 clove really made my stomach sting for a while, but now I can take many clove with no problem.2-3 cloves of garlic 3 times a day. you must refrain from "junk food" and wheat/sugar products (includes carrots/fruits/other vinegars/mushrooms, smoked meats, etc.) Look up the candida diet. and like I said the Candida diet/clense also seems to subside my bladder/kidney pain.

  • I had a bout with high blood pressure (200/130) 2 years ago. After all the kidney scans came back it showed my left kidney had completely shut down. It was also really small. They put a stent in the left renal artery and opened up the kidney. It is functioning, but not like it should. I get terrible pains in the kidney from time to time. Also, get nauseated. I have stage 3 CKD. I was spilling alot of protein so my Dr. put me on Lisinopril and it controls it pretty good. The Dr. also told me that I will probably have kidney pain forever. They have talked about removing the kidney, but I'm not ready for that, they just keep checking me to see how it's doing. And of course I take my blood pressure everyday the Dr. said that is the first sign I should look for if I have a problem.
