I have had my share of joint problems since I was about 15, bad knees...creaking and clicking joints, but very recently I started having severe symptoms.

First of all, about a month or two ago, I began waking up at night sometimes with severe pain in my arm, just one arm, so I thought I must have been sleeping on it.

When I would wake up in the morning, my ankles were SO sore...hard to walk down the stairs because they had to flex. Then I began to have pain in my calves, all day long.
The waking at night has gotten much worse, sometimes I wake up and both arms are killing me...sharp pain in the elbows and numbness as well at times. My hands are extremely stiff when I wake up, so that I cannot bend my fingers back at all, or flex my hand forward. It loosens up a little during the day, but the pain does not subside. I can't carry grocery bags or push doors open because it hurts so much. It is actually quite hard to type as well. I am only 24! It sounds something like arthritis but I wonder at why the symptoms are so sudden...

Can anyone please help?

Thank you!

  • Have you visited a doctor for this? He/she will check out your symptoms and run blood tests. IMO that's the first place to start. You could have a number of ilnesses including arthritis or even the flu. Let me know how things turn out? :)

  • I actually am having the same problems... I was taking a few medications and when I would wake up...my hands would be flat...and when I would try to make a fist it would hurt so bad that I would cry.... there was no fluid and I thought that I had slept on it wrong...but it happened too much...it would go away a few hours after I was awake...but the last time I had this, it went into my arm to my elbow. my docotr thinks that its from my medication... I had a grand mal seizure. I am 26 by the way.... and I have been on ativan...for stress...stopped taking it and had my seizure...So i am on that for a while. But my doctor doesnt think that anything is wrong. I am so fed up with doctors... I have severe fatigue....and i feel like everytime I go to a doctor they are not listening to me...and they make me feel like I am just making it up and I am making myself sick... So if anyone one knows what this is let me know!

  • I was referred to a rheumatologist and he diagnosed me with rheumatoid arthritis. The only thing abnormal about my blood work was a slightly elevated rheumatoid factor...but I was at the point that I was not even able to sleep at night due to the pain I was in. I am now on Celbrex, Prednisone and Plaquenil...after a week and a half I am still very swollen in all joints, and my hands are almost completely numb. The pain, however, is much more manageable. Still can't wear shoes, my feet are so big!
