hello, i am new to the boards and have been diagnosed with mac, this I found out after being hospitalized for pnemonia. Then when I got home I found out that I had mrsa pnemonia , after 1 month on iv antibiotics for that I found out I had psedomonas which is an infection I probably picked up at the hospital from the pick line so more antibiotics, then I was diagnosed with mac , I know that you usually get mac when your immune system is crap.. So needless to say I have gotten rid of the mrsa and the psedomonas and now just have to get started on the antibiotics for mac. These are worse than the disease itself. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on taking the ethambutol, rifambin or azythromyacin. Every time I start them I get super sick like having some type of super flu.:confused:Please help!

  • The azithramycin is probably the easiest of these drugs to tolerate, but maybe your dr. can change one or both of the other ones to something that doesn't make you so sick. Mac treatment is not easy, but important.

  • Thank you for the information , I am going to try it again, the azythromiacin and the rifampin, the dr said instead of taking two just take one and one in a couple of hours she said it should still work. again thanks.:)
