My daughter was born Jan 15, '08. She was 36w4d and healthy. She was 4lbs 15oz. She came home less than 48 hours later. She was slightly jaundice, but it cleared at about 10 days.

She has been diagnosed Failure to Thrive. She is only 10lbs at 6 months old. She is in the less than 3%, but she is porportionate. he has had slow, but steady weight gain. She does have acid reflux. pH Probe confirmed that. She is on meds for it.

She has very low muscle tone. She doesn't roll over often and has just began activly reaching for toys. She holds her own bottle as well. She can push up on her arms and has good head support. She is not independently sitting. She can sit supported for short times. (in her Bumbo, even longer) She kicks and waves her arms. She's not floppy or still.

She is very bright eyed, smiley, and "talkative." She looks "normal" She's just really small.

Dr's are pushing me to do quite a few tests. (EEG, MRI, ect)

I'm uncomfortable sedating her.(MRI) I will NOT allow it. I'm fine with the EEG though.

Am I being unrealistic in thinking my daughter is just small and is fine??

Any other tests or diagnosis that anyone might consider her to have?

The Dr's are hinting at one Dx, but I don't believe it. I'd rather not say what it is b/c I'd like an unbiased opinion.

This can cause the GERD/acid reflux. What meds is she taking? DOM

  • She is breastfed. I did temp. stop nursing her and we tried two different formulas for a week each. (It got worse) One was Isomil Advance the other Alimentum. She is now on Reglan and Zantac. Her reflux is not so much of a concern as they saying she is "significantally delayed" in respect to her motor skills. Unless her low weight contributes to her having low muscle tone???

Hi do you know docs go from one exteme to another when a mother instinct is saying something is wrong they don't give a stuff but when you saying everything is ok apart from her being small they jump and want to do everything. My daughter also suffers from severe reflux and she never rolled but i think it was to do with being on her front she also never crawled but she did sit up very early in fact it was like she needed to be upright, she was standing on her feet for long periods from 6mths, she is now 17mths and is still suffering from reflux severly. I would wait as she is holding a bottle and sitting up in her bumbo some babies just take a while longer it doesn't mean they are delayed don't worry what they are saying, don't let them scare you now if she got to a year old and wasn't doing it then i would start to worry. Hope everything goes ok. Sharon x

  • I understand the unbiased thing, are you still checking up on this website? This was about a month ago, so by now most people have stopped checking back, but if you still use this site, will you post another reply.
