I was recently tested for HIV in October 2006. I was told by my doctor that if they did not call me my STD test including HIV came back clean. I was never called back so I assumed that my test were clean. The following month I went to apply for insurance and I was denied coverage. One of the reasons stated on my denial letter was that I had an immune system defiency. I am now fearing for the worse and believe I may have contracted HIV. I was wondering if there are any other possible reasons for having an immune system defiency? Also, other STD test have came back clean and I would say that I have developed symptoms of herpes or other similar infections.

  • Definately call that doc that did the tests and ask for the results on the HIV. There could have been an oversight (a very irresponsible and awful oversight) on the part of the Dr's office. There are other possibilities such as a mistake on the part of the insurance company, or maybe you have simply had something in the past that was an immune system issue and you just weren't well informed of that at the time you had it. For example, Epstein Barr is an "immune disorder" but it's EXTREMELEY common, and once you have the virus you have it forever....usually without problems. Mono (AKA the "kissing disease") ... that most of us go thru early in life is another one. Insurance companies like to reject us or raise our rates for things that aren't neccessarily a big deal....that's one way they make their money. As far as what you believe to have possibly been herpes symptoms, they may have been. From what I understand, herpes tests aren't generally run when someone asks to be checked out for STD's. When I asked about getting a test for Herpes for myself after I had a few ... um ... slightly irresponsible encounters, I was told that the only test for Herpes is a somewhat expensive blood test that isn't generally run unless specifically asked for. I was also told that if I had herpes, I would have had symptoms within a certain time frame after being exposed, and that the symptoms are pretty painful and uncomfortable.

  • Also, you may not have HIV. I read on 2 other posts on here about how insurance companies sometimes deny you even if there was a question of it. (Meaning that they know you were tested somehow) This whole insurance thing in the US is messed up. What ever happened to the "PRIVACY ACT"? If I were you, I'd quickly get to the bottom of this. Your medical records are "your" business!!! I pray that you do not have anything positve in your testings. But if this the case ( God forbid) you had better get in touch with a lawyer ASAP! Do not let this go. If your DR. looked this over and failed to let you know the results, you have an excellent case. I am sorry but this really *****s me off. To let any human being, sit there and "wonder" about something like this is bullsh*t! A Dr. took blood from me in Oct. 06 and in mid Dec 06, I was told that my blood work came back bad. Not on the same medical issue, BUT, I may have a tumor on my adrenal gland! Cancer or not, I have no idea! I am now in the midst of more bloodwork through a specialist and it has been 3 months now! That is 3 months of my life that could be a very crucial time to my fate! I wish you all the best and if they screwed you, I hope to God, you get your revenge! These "God-like" Doctors need to start caring more about their patients and less about the MONEY!! Good Luck

  • sorry to comment on another page, but i have a problem.about 4 months ago i had unprotected sex with a guy i knew had only been with one other girl. However, we didnt go "all the way" meaning he never even ejaculated. Before him, I had sex with 2 other guys and they were however protected. Now im experiencing symptoms of hiv. I had diarrhea for over a week, swollen lymph nodes for months, a very sore throat, small pink spot on my tongue that went away after about 4 days, and muscles aches. As old symptoms leave, new ones come. I am worrying about this waaay too much. Its ruining my life.I was wondering if you could tell me if it is possible that i have hiv???

It can make you sick as ***l and swollen lymph nodes/sore throat are common symptoms for mono. In future, please take care to have unprotected sex. Even if he doesn't 'ejaculate', some semen will come out before full-blown ejaculation. It simply isn't safe without condoms. You run the risk of all kinds of other serious STD's - including herpes, which can truly cause you life-long illness - so not worth it.
