Hi there everyone. I was wondering if you could help me. My boyfriend currently has a yellow tongue. His other symptoms are a sore, swollen throat which hurts when swallowing. The back of his nose seems to be infected with mucus, but he is currently not coughing anything up.

He has had it, intermitently, for about four weeks and it won't go away. It's not possible for us to go to the doctor's at the moment as we're living away from home, and he probably wouldn't go anyway.

I am very worried about him so if anyone has any ideas as to what it might be and also, if there's anything we can do to cure it then please let me know. I realise it's probably something very simple but I'd still appreciate any help. Thanks!

  • Sounds like he has candida of some kind, yeast on tongue, he needs meds. My baby got it when she went on antibiotics once. THere is a mouth wash that you swish and swallow that the doc can give him. If he has had it for awhile(4 weeks) it can make his throat and mouth hurt and I asssume that the yeast can get into his nose and cause all sorts of stuffiness. Good luck!

  • Sounds like a sinus infection. Is his breath bad? If he's had this for several weeks he really needs to see a Doc.!

  • Sounds like thrush to me. There are pills called Diflucan which will clear it up quickly.

  • It doesn't necessarily have to be thrush. It could also be bacterial. I found some really good info on oral bacterial infection that causes yellow tongue as well as a suggested treatment. It is from the Mayo clinic:http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/yellow-tongue/AN01767
