Recently I have noticed a yellow color around my eyes, mainly underneath and on the outside of them, I can't see the yellow in the mirror and no one has said anything about it to me until you see my pictures close up, it seems like the flash of the camera makes it stand out. I don't think I've realized this until December 2006 right after I gave birth to my son. I'm a little worried that it could be something serious, I haven't really felt any different but this yellowness makes me look sick in my pictures. I have had a case of diarrea quite a bit in the past two months but I was assuming it was my birth control I use, right before I have to go to the bathroom I get the worst pains in my stomach area which make it hard to move. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the yellow near my eyes but I thought I'd bring that up too. Don't know what to do... would like some advice!

  • You may want to have liver tests done.

  • The last post gave good advise. My Father had Hepititus and his first symptoms is yellow whites of the eyes and feelin like he had flu. Don't want to alarm you as it is perfectly treatable with the correct diet. I Diagnosed a lad at boarding school with a liver complaint 2 weeks before he fell ill. He had Yelow Jorndis the whites of his eyes went yellow, just like my dads; a complaint of the liver. Do you Drink much? The diet is no alchohol and no fats for 6 months boring as you like but you get better, the Liver is the most tolerent and reparable organ you have, treat it right and it can be like new in a few months, Trouble is you feel better after about a month on the diet but you have to stick it untill the tests come back clear. Get yourself a blood test and ask for a "liver function test" it can be measured in units and your Doc will tell you if its OK or not.

  • i dont drink at all.. and the whites aren't yellow, it's just mainly on the side of my eyes and a little underneath.. it's scary to think something could be wrong with my liver when i feel perfectly fine.. i did just have a baby in december and i saw something about being anemic could do that to the eyes and i was told to take iron pills after my labor and i never followed up with it. so i don't know, the tough part is i don't have health insurance right now so i can't see a doctor for blood work.. i know it has to be done soon and i plan on getting married shortly and then i'll have my husbands insurance. just wish there was other reasons why the skin around eyes could be yellow, nothing else on my face is that color yet. i'm only 23 years old!! then again don't think age has anything to do with it.

  • I'm also not trying to scare you - all liver problems aren't caused by alcohol. My Dad had yellow jondus when he was a child. He eventually turned yellow all over. it may not be liver problems but it's worth checking into.

  • Jaundice is a symptom. Basically, some of your plumbing around the liver and gall bladder is experiencing trouble and bile build-up is coloring the eyes and later the skin. I know this is simply stated. Several diseases which have jaundice as one of the symptoms are hyperbilirubinemia (what babies get, and is cured by special lamps) and various forms of hepatitis. Also there could be a blockage along the above mentioned plumbing. Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. Your liver actually cleans your blood and is essential to life. If you have jaundice, you should get it checked out immediately. The lady with yellow AROUND the eyes might benefit from a repeat visit to the doc who delivered the baby. This time, take the pills prescribed.

I just recently noticed dark circles under my eyes and a yellowing of the skin around my eyes and somewhat on my cheeks... i've been to the doctor and he has done the liver test, and it came back good... the doctor didn't seem too worried about the yellowing around my eyes after that so i guess it's not seroius... so what is causing it? and even better how can I get rid of it besides covering it up with makeup?

  • I've had some yellowness around my eyes in pictures too, I doubt it's a problem with your liver. My friend suggested taking some B12 vitamins with dinner. Cleared it up pretty well.I guess it's like telling if you have enough Iron by the redness under you eyelid or something.

  • I would say have your thyroid checked. My mom and I are both hypothyroid, with normal liver/kidney function mind you, and both of us have yellow around our eyes (not the actual eyes) that seems worse when we're tired.

  • So, having a dig around, if it's like a blob of yellow then it's cholesterol forming http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XanthelasmaBut that's not what I have. For me, it looks more like I have yellow/orange makeup on. Which is weird for a guy. This week I had my blood checked and my iron levels are fine. My cholesterol has been good the last few years, and I'll get another result next week. So, I don't know what it is. And neither does Google.

Do a search for "thryoid yellow skin cheeks"

  • you don't have jaundace. You may be retaining sulfer. Talk to your doctor or homopath about what you can do. usually you need to avoid sulfer foods.
