I've seen many doctors/specialists and none have been able to help me resolve this problem.

I have no known allergies.

It started a little over 2 years ago. I started becoming congested when I sleep, no mucus, just one side (right or left sinus) becomes TOTALLY blocked from air flow and pressurized and I get a terrible sleep, never seem to get into REM, anything wakes me up, I always wake up after 8 hours of sleep feeling like I got 2 hours sleep, eyes dry and bloodshot. Migraines or headaches in the morning and throughout the day one side is always slightly blocked. Air flow is typically ok in the evening but after I lay down for 5 minutes one side becomes totally locked. In the morning after I walk around for a few minutes, semi-regular air flow returns and the pressure is mostly gone. When I work out, I always have almost total air flow.

First ENT: Did a septoplasty (straightened out deviated septum) no resolve.

First ENT: Prescribed valium for me to sleep, helped very minimally, kept me asleep, but the quality of sleep was still garbage.

First ENT: Thinks I may grind my teeth at night, dialating the blood vessels causing inflammation of sinus, (why does it only happen on one side at a time?).

First ENT: Suggested I go on anti-depressants (what the ***l does this have to do with it?)

Second ENT: Allergy tests, nothing, no explanation.

Regular physicians suggested my body thinks it has allergies and therefore exhibits allergy-like reactions (This person is a doctor?)

This problem is wearing me down greatly, I haven't had a solid night's sleep in many years..

  • I read another posting with those links earlier. My mother has a grave sensitivity to those things and claims she can feel the heat from cell phones, wifi connections and the like.I am surrounded and constantly working with computers. Even if I didn't have these items there is so much activity in the airwaves without my technology producing it, I wouldn't be able to avoid it even if it was the culprit.I guess I could stay in a mountain terrain for a month and see if I got better :) Of course my BSBA in MIS is shot if it were true...

  • Were you checked for sleep apnea? You may need oxygen at night if it's not a feather pillow, which you said you are not allergic.

  • Yes, de-allergicize (?) your bedroom. Buy a new pillow every couple of months. Double cover your pillows. Don't let the dog/cat sleep with you. Use non-perfumed detergent and fabric softener. Sometimes a fan works, but you have to keep it really clean. How about those nasal strips. Can you flush out your nose with saline or water before bed? Do you snore? Vacuum the heck out of your bedding. Pretend you are getting rid of cooties. Can you take a mild anti-histamine before bed? I have the same stuffiness and have only followed about half of the tips. Sometimes I nap on the couch half sitting up and can get better sleep that way. If you find anything that works, please let me know.

  • My oxygen levels nose dive also during the night mainly, also nose dives during the day but thats another story......wont bore u with all ! Sleep apnia & allergies definately likey. Also reference to anti-depressants, they do help treat some other illnesses other than depression, i take them to help with pain relief, as tegratol is an epileptic (how do u spell that) drug also is used to treat cronic pain, it didnt actually work for me but my point is some drugs are used for different things other that what the common use is.........so dont dismiss things too quickly, just ask the doctor why he is suggesting such treatment. Hope u fell better soon :)

  • I know just how this feels, it used to make me hallucinate. There may be a combination of causes, so you need to eliminate what you can. Please read www.circle-of-life.net/FBatmangehelidjMD.html - it has helped my whole family with many problems. Also don't eat anything for about one and a half hours before sleep. In general try to eat very healthy for at least a month - this can make it worse first and then much better. Take Vitamin-C 1000mg (slow release) before sleep, works for me. Empty your bowels before sleep. Have a glass of plain water at your bed and take it immediately when waking up unwell. In short, do something about being poisoned and dehydrated. When taking pills it is the water you use that actually helps. Also ask for "Sinuforce" (or similar) homeopathic med by Dr Vogel of Switzerland, he was a genius.

  • I can't hold a cellphone, it sends a spasm up my arm and hurts my ear. The notebook wireless connection always punches me in the tummy when I forget. And yes it can't be totally avoided, being broadcast all over. It wears down our life force, so we just have to build it up again. Sometimes not much is needed to win - careful diet, water etc. Having a shower can wash your aura down the drain, rather have a deep bath with some epsom salts. Some of the wave pollution is even good for us, it kills pathogens.Porphyria no thanks, I've been perfectly fine for some months now. One learns. It helps to have a traditional Chinese doctor - I found a good one just a few blocks from home, and that in doomed South Africa. You may be lucky too, ask at a Chinese restaurant.

  • I just keep drinking up rocket fuel. Dr told me to be careful... said it was dangerous. But it makes me feel better so... I drink it up. Love Chinese... the glutamate is good for me. Epsom salts... very good for you. Keep it up. I'd swear you have porphyria... you should be tested.;) tdwi I can't hold a cellphone, it sends a spasm up my arm and hurts my ear. • Get a Neti Pot and see if it helps. I know many who have done so and swear by it. It's cheap and worth a try. Anyone suffering from sinus problems, colds, allergies, hayfever, etc. should give it a try.http://www.healingdaily.com/exercise/neti-pot.htm

  • Sounds to me like you need OXYGEN! Check out getting a C-PAP machine at night. A sleep study would indicate the need for this. Good luck to you!
