For the past 14months i have always had bowel obstructions and illeus. I am constantly ill and have no energy. My stomach is always in pain and im in and out of hospitals and drs offices and they just tell me to eat more fiber and to keep taking my prescription Amitiza and drink miralax twice a day. I do what i am told but am still constantly ill and it just scrapes me by so i can function a little bit. I want to find out why i can not function so i can fix the problem instead of just constantly tweeking so i can empty out a little bit so i dont get another full fledged obstruction. PLease HELP ME!!!!!!!!    thanks

  • Valariel, could you fill in a few gaps in your posting for me.How were you diagnosed 14 months ago. X-ray,CT scan, ultrasound or did they come to this conclusion based on symtoms? How was your health, were you on medication for anything else pryor to this diagnosis? age? weight? You say your constantly ill-nausea,vomiting?"stomach in pain" cramps that come and go or constant? stool color?Any other symtoms before and up till now that wasn't worth mentioning because you didn't think it could be related? also headaches? Regards

Regardsmy husband is 8 days post very ruptured appendix and has not had a bowel movement since 2 days before the emergency surgery. zhe has a past hx of an intusseption when he was 6 months old that his mom tells me was so bad they said he might not live thru the first 24hrs after surg. But I dunno, she didn't even know what it was called so I take her info w/ a grain of salt. But it was an intusseption for sure. Anyway, he's hardheaded and did take 1/2 dose of MiraLax...nothing. They gave him nothing in hosp to help w/ moving his bowels even though they were pumping him w/ dilaudid and morphine every 4 hours the first 5 days. He was also on major antibiotics, the appendix ruptured and he had infection plus an abscess. We all know pain meds play ***l w/ your bowels, but he didn't even get stool softener. So what do you think?

So what do you think?Hi , Last year my appendix burst as well. When I left the hospital I was extremely constipated as well. It is due to the high intensity antibiotics and the pain meds. My physician told me to take a full cap of Mirilax as well, daily to help with the constipation so that should be okay for your hubby too. They supposedly "removed" my appendix but later on when i continued to have issues, they performed a colonsocopy which showed my appendix was still there with a bowel obstruction as well so if he continues to not have a bowel movement while taking a FULL dosage of Mirilax then I would consult a Gastro for further help.
