I have been feeling pretty bad for a while now. I am super tired and hot all of the time. Doctor's have just told me that I am fine. My oxygen level had gone down to about 70 a couple few months ago and I felt horrible. I have had blood tests done recently and the doctor told me that I was great. I have had super low ferritin levels forever and doctors just keep telling me to take iron pills or eat red meat. I try to tell them that I am and usually thats that. My ferritin is even lower on this blood test at 6. I have very high normal sugar and I have very high normal ldl-c. I used to be pretty good w/ these. I have very low normal alt and ast. The lab marked drr low on these and marked something on my platelets but the doctor didn't know what it meant. creatine was pretty low tbil was low. Tsh was 1.2. The doctor seemed shocked when she looked at my nails and saw the muehrcke lines, but sayed oh well you must have been very sick sometime. I have had weird symptoms for a while. I didn't think i was a hypochondriac. I feel crappy most of the time, but doctors seem to ask about anxiety and dismiss anything else. What do these lines on my fingernails mean?

  • Definitely a symptom of thyroid. A thyroid bloodwork panel can help when the Tsh is normal..Don't let the doctors dismiss you and put you on antidepressants, yet this process almost broke me....I don't know what your insurance is like. After 30 years of one diagnosis after the other....I found the problem myself....I had a severe case of intestinal parasites. Diagnosed with Grave's Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Spastic Colon, Gastritis, Pleuracy, Depression. Most medicines have the opposite effect on me....now I have a good idea why!

Thank you for answering me. I don't want to be anxious about my health, but feeling miserable most of the time is annoying. The doctors tell me that since my thyroid tsh is at 1.2, normal they won't test further. They flat out say no. I have a goiter too and no one seems too concerned. They seemed a little concerned about those lines on my nail, but didn't really discuss it. I googled and it looks like they are from low Albumin( mine is fine in blood tests now) usually chronic disease. My ferritin is very low, but the doctor told me that I should just change iron pills as injections are expensive. My mother gets injections of iron and thinks it is great as she finally has energy. They do want me to go back for a follow up and I am supposed to go back to a urologist as I have had blood in my urine for years now so they check it every once in a while. Doctors and their co-pays and the cobra insurance I am carrying are killing me. I am sorry you have had to suffer for so long. How did you find out about what was really wrong with you? It's funny though, The doctor had just told me that I had no iron problem at all and to stop taking the iron pills I have been taking forever. When I tried to tell her that I have been Anemic for years and she was telling me that I wasn't the Ferririn test came back and she had to admit I was right.Take care,Hutena
