I had a Islet Cell Tumor removed from my pancreas in 2005 by having whipple surgery.. since then (not before) I suffer from pancreatits. I am in pain for 3 to 5 day sometimes I recoup at home or in the hospital. I have recently been having spasms in the upper abdomin. I have no warning signs I am just hit with terrible pain, can't breath, sweaty & clamy, the spasm last 3 to 4 mins afterwards I am so tired. I had several spasms last night and went to the ER and all my bloodwork was normal. What is really going on with me.. Has anyone had a whipple surgery which then has been followed by painful spasm in the upper abdomin

Has anyone had a whipple surgery which then has been followed by painful spasm in the upper abdominhi. I know exactly how you feel. I had a whipple surgery in 2000 at the Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital in Manhattan. 11 years ago. Now I am 38 years old. I had a tumor in the head of the pancreas. After the operation my doctor told me that it was not cancer. Nobody i my family had pancreas cancer before. I stayed in the hospital for a month. after the month i had extremely terrible pain. and my doctor told that he could not give anymore pain medication. I don't know how I could handle it. I that year I had like 5 pancreatitis. The pancreatitis started with so much pain in my chest that i had to go to the hospital they gave me morphine i stayed for a week . After that almost every day for 8 years I had pain in my chest that lasted for 3 minutes and then go away. When the pain didn't go away I had to go the hospital again. After the year 2000 i had been hospitalized for pancreatitis at least twice a year. I also had really very very bad smell bowel movements which were very sad. More or less since two years ago I have pancreatitis once a year. it got better. I can not eat any thing that has so much fat like pork, bacon, chinese food, etc. i also can not bend down on my chest because it will hurt me; i found out by myself a couple of solutions for this incredible life. and that is: when i have that pain that last 3 minutes drink alot of warm water almost without stop. the water helps me digesting the fat i think. Also another solution when i have much more pain is to vomit. I put my finger in the mouth until i throw up. I guess sometimes i can't digest the food so either i help with water or i vomit if there is no solution. And for the bad smell bowel movements digestive enzymes. Also since the operation i could not gain weight. I eat a lot to keep my 100 pounds. it is very easy for me to lose weigh but very hard to gain weight. I have a son and he really makes me to have hope and faith that things will get better. I fight against every thing in life for him and me. Don't worry have faith that things will get better. I tell you something else; I am not religious but about like half year ago i started reading the bible. and it says that nothing is impossible for God; it says that you only need to pray and God will listen to you. take care.

  • I had the whipple surgery in 2008 and yes I agree the pain is so intence it takes your breath away, and all i could say was oh god help me, it was like someone was twisting my intestines up 2 my heart and after the attack. I would sleep for six hours straight and I still was exhasted.I found out through the loacal health food store to take pappya ensymes they are chewable they taste really good, when I have an attack I pop 4 in my mouth and chew them the attack was gone. You see papya is an ensyme that helps digest our food.I do have a problem with loosing weight I have bin gaining so much weight and I can't seem to get it off.My doctor said anyone that has had this proceeder done can't gain weight I wish I had that problem.

  • I have had similar spasms and determined that it is from cramps in the abdominal wall muscles. If I do a sort of backbend and stretch out the abdominal wall muscles for a minute or two as soon as I start to feel the pain coming on, it stops the spasms and I feel OK in a few minutes. Try this.
