I need to find someone in UK or Europe who can take swab and test for actinomyces israelli. It needs to be cultured in chocolate agar. The infected areas are in sinus where infected root canalled teeth were removed, and now progressed down to chest infection. Who can take swab/s for me and grow them quickly so I can get proper treatment ? Doctors I am dealing with are not up to the job and I am getting sicker. I am willing to go anywhere to get this done. A nose swab does not do the trick, and I dont believe doctors who say I need to be under a full anaesthetic to have swab taken. I would SO appreciate an intelligent and practical person replying to this thread asap. Thank you. :)

  • I wonder why you would need to go to such lengths. The treatment is simple: "In most cases, antimicrobial therapy is the only treatment required, although surgery can be an adjunct in selected cases. Penicillin G is the drug of choice for treating an infection caused by actinomycetes." From: http://www.emedicine.com/Med/topic31.htm

  • To Acquila - thank you for reply. I have had actinomyces diagnosed by electro dermal testing by a toxicologist- and I do have all the symptoms according to him and two dental specialists - however to get traditional medical personnel to treat me I have to get a scientific diagnosis test which proves this diagnosis to "doctors". I am quite clear its actinomyces and I am well aware of what treatment is required. My question is - do you know a diagnosis service in UK or Europe that I can roll up to and get tested instantly to get my ENT, maxillo surgeons, and doctors to ACT on the diagnosis, treat the pathogen specifically, and for me to get well ? Meantime the jaw/sinus infection is now in my chest and could be in my heart while doctors just sit by and refuse to do testing. All they seem to be interested in is giving vast ranges of drugs - without any pathogen identification. It doesnt work ! Penicillin needs to be given long term intravenously. I am heading for death at this rate !.. PS do you know if there is an organisation who can assist me to sue the doctors too ?

  • Did you ever manage to get it diagnosed? I'm pretty sure I have Actinomycosis too and the doctors refuse to test me for it.
