hi, has anybody reading this ever had this problem before? About a month or more ago, I started having this chest congestion where I am having a hard time coughing up phlegm. It comes and goes. Many times before going to sleep, I have to take some Benedryl for chest congestion and it seems to work until I wake in the morning and start my coughing again. I have no fever or headaches and the only problem is coughing in an attempt to clear my lungs of this thicker mucus. If you know anything regarding this problem, please get back to me..thankyou!

  • I now see that you have no fever. It sounds like allergic bronchitis since Benadryl helps it because it wouldn't help any infectious causes.

  • Allergies are one possibility. Asthma is another. Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD, or commonly called heartburn) is also a cause of cough. You don't have to feel heartburn to have GERD, by the way.
