Can anyone explain what it means to have keytones and protein in your urine? What is that a sign of?

  • Not sure about proteins (though I think associated with kidney problems) but keytones is a symptom of untreated diabetes or poorly controlled diabetes. So if you have diabetes you need to get some help in controlling your blood sugar or if you have not been diagnosed you need to have a blood test asap.

  • The first answer you got is what i was going to post as well. Ketones are released when your body, for some reason, cannot use glucose for energy and must break down body fat instead. Protein in the urine indicates some kind of kidney stress. Both in the urine may indicate diabetes. I hope this helps you. :) BTW, I can't view your profile at the moment, but in the event you are pregnant :D (if you are indeed female, lol) this could also be a precursor of preeclampsia. If this is your case, please go to the nearest store to purchase a blood pressure monitor, and take your blood pressure a couple of times daily. The WebMD site also has links to preeclampsia, as well, for more info. I had preeclampsia with my first pregnancy and having a monitor around sure would have made my life better!
