we were told today that my 9 month old daughter has a vitamin b6 deficiency. she has had seizures since she was 5 days old. the seizure medicine’s seemed to be working until we had this latest innocent. I was wondering if there is anyone else that has a child that was born with this vitamin b6 deficiency. And how the child is doing.

Then later it was figured that she has peridoxine deficiency that was causing seizures. Now she takes vit B6 every day and she's doing great. she has not had any seizures since then and also she is growing fine.

  • Did yours suffer any brain damage? And at what age was she/he diagnosed? Mine is about to turn 2. and is still behind as far as walking, talking, understanding, etc. but no more seizures since the diagnoses. We are off all medications - just the 200mg of vitamin b6 daily.

And how the child is doing. My daughter (born out of consanginous marriage (self & wife are related) developed mild jerks on her 7 day of life. Since then neurologist medicated with Seizures tablets along with B6 vitamins. When the seizure drugs was reduced and stopped after a certain period of time she didnt had problem. Her milestones were normal. At 2 1/2 yrs of age when B6 was tappered she developed myoclonus jerks uprolling movement of eyes, twitching etc. Then she developed seizures in full swing- continuous hospitalisation with over 36 hrs of seizures - strong anti-convulsants were power-infused through IV did not stop seizures. She went into coma -- neurologist did not know what to do - we were advised to take her home. to our surprise on discharge from hospital - seizures stopped - but her coma condition continued. After a month - she opened eyes - continuous physiotherapy, speech therapy for over 6 months regained slow improvement. Now she is 9 years old. Her status of health -- Walking with support. She could speak one or two words - her IQ is only 1 or 1 1/2 yrs of age. She at times indicates by gesture her natures call - otherwise mostly bed wetting. When we went for counselling to decide whether to continue unplanned pregnancy now, we were asked to give my daughter's urine and blood sample for testing to determine whether she is B6 deficient or dependent. It has now been diagnosied as B6 deficiency and further investigations are on to determine to continue the pregnancy or not. This is the current state of affairs.Sorry for such a lengthy summary.
