I'm in need of some help. Recently, following nothing of my knowledge, I've been getting these violent twitches through my body, not continuous twitches just kind of massive jerks where my body jumps, arms flail out, legs hitch up and my face spasms too. My tutor at college asked me if I'd suddenly gained a stutter because in the middle of a sentence I jerked and lost control of my speech. Everything just spasms and I'm wondering what it is.

  • I wonder if you had a stroke. You need to see a neurologist.

  • It almost sounds like myoclonus.I'd definitely get in to see a neurologist...By the way, one rare thing that can cause myoclonus is called Hashimoto's Encephalopathy, diagnosed by elevated thyroid antibodies, typically in the context of normal thyroid hormone levels... If they think you have myoclonus and can't figure out why, you might want to ask to have your thyroid antibodies checked. Most neurologists don't know about HE yet.I will keep you in my thoughts and hope you get an answer soon!Best Wishes.

  • Thanks guys. They aren't frequent jerks, they happen every so often. There were about 3 last night though which is out of the ordinary. I've made a doctors appointment so I'll see what he says.
