I'm a 16 year old girl. I weigh 113 pounds and I'm 5 foot 1. I was diagnosed with mild scoliosis when I was 12. For the past two years I have struggled with chest pains. Doctors always said it was stress and that if it was anything to do with my heart I would be dead by now (sometimes when the pains were so bad I believed I was having a heart attack). In July of this year I found I was pregnant and had an abortion in September. The next day I got a headache which lasted about two weeks. Ever since then I have been having chest pains as well as head pains. I can't exactly call them headaches because it's not a constant ache. It's more of a thumping pain I get as though I can feel my heart beat in my skull. It's also usually in the front, right side of my skull but occassionally moves to the back left side of my skull. Sometimes it is so bad that I can't sleep at night because I'm so worried that I won't wake up. I don't know what it could be but I don't think that a fairly healthy 16 year old normally goes through this kind of thing. If you have any idea what could possibly be wrong please, please, please help me out.

  • Your doctors should not assume you're okay just because you're young. Your headaches sound like migraines. At very least, you should get looked at for migraine treatment. It's very possible that you have what's called mitral valve prolapse, which is usually harmless, but there are other possibilities too and your complaints should be taken seriously.
