I'm a 28 yr old mom (of a 2 year old). I've had irregular periods since I began menstruating at the age of 12 and have met several doctors but to no avail. Tried iron tablets since I'm anaemic - this helps occasionally. One doctor claims that I maybe a 'weird' PCO (Poly Cystic Ovary) case since I don't sport most of the typical symptoms of this.

Our baby was born after a problem free pregnancy during which scans confirmed 'no cysts'. Periods were regular for a year after delivery. It's become irregular again since the last year or so.

How safe is Novelon (desogestrel and ethinylestradiol tablets) for long term use? This contraceptive pill was prescribed by one of my doc's who said it can be used to regularize the cycles.

Upset and irritated. Pls help.

  • Can you explain the vaginal bleeding a little more? Have you had a pelvic exam?

  • I had that same problem start when I was 14. My obgyn put me on a birth control pill because she thought i had an inbalance in my hormones. The pnly birth control pill that works is orthrocyclin that gives me the same amount every day. Last July the problem came back. Since January I have been fine. The only change in July was switching to gerneric orthrocyclin. (and breaking up with my ex, it was a yelling screaming kind) i.e. a huge emotional stress which can effect your period. - Hope this helps -

  • My goodness you've decribed my situation to a tea. I am also 28 and I have a 15mth old and have been very irregular even bleeding 4wks straight then every 2 wks with spotting in between that, on or off the pill. This has been going on since June 2007. I did try numerous contraceptives such as Normin-1, Levlen and Implanon the one that is inserted into your arm. Both of those haven't helped at all. I have had the Depo-Ralovera injection two weeks ago and so far I haven't bled for a week which is great. I am also iron deficient, which isn't helping. I have a gynae appt on the 12th Feb so will be interesting to see what he says about it all.
